PartyPoker partner and Dusk Til Dawn card room owner Rob Yong created a poll in Twitter trying to get feedback on the new idea. The idea is to stop players from colliding and make online poker experience more secure for real players. The poll quickly gained over 5000 votes and 84,6% voted in favour of facial recognition.
Some questions remain to be unanswered, but it is clear that this measure would make players feel more comfortable and make the entire poker economy more transparent. Websites have battled with more advanced poker bots during recent times and also players using VPN-s to play in the same table with several accounts.
5000 voters can definitely considered a sizeable sample and many other poker sites could soon implement the idea.
Triton Poker has postponed their Super High Roller event that was supposed to take place in South Korea. Triton Poker released an official press release that said, “Since the Coronavirus first leapt from animals to humans in China a few weeks ago, close to 10,000 people have been infected, and it’s killed more than 200. All of the deaths have been inside China, but the virus has spread to more than a dozen countries.
"The safety of our players and support staff remains our utmost priority. Coupled with our duty to do everything we can in our power to prevent the virus from spreading, we’ve taken the difficult but correct stop of postponing the event with immediate effect.
"The thoughts and prayers of the Triton Poker Team are with the families of those that have lost their lives and for the ones fighting the virus all over the world. Another official announcement in regards to the potential resurrection of the event will be made on February 10th, 2020."
The reach of corona virus has put pressure on events where people gather in large masses. With more lives lost than during the SARS epidemic eyes are turning to the WSOP live events scheduled to start in May 27 in Las Vegas.
WSOP latest statement says that the tournament is not being postponed but this could change in the coming weeks if new cases should emerge in the USA.
Las Vegas is visited by 3.5 million people every month with 500.000 coming for business conferences. WSOP 2019 attracted 187 298 entries in 2019.
After being closed for two weeks, Macau casinos are scheduled to be re-opened at February 20th. Previously the government forced the casinos to be closed at 5th of February but Li Weinong who is the secretary of foreign affairs in Macau has now said that the casinos can now re-open.
The WPT accounced that the Vietnamese tournament that was originally scheduled to start March 13 has been cancelled and WPT Taiwan that was scheduled to start March 27 has been postponed.
After Philippines imposed travel restrictions on foreign visitors the WPT Philippines tournaments prize pool was cut in half but is still scheduled to start as planned.
